Back to Straight

On my last post I said I was going to do a protective style but goodness gracious, I was loving straight hair and had to go back. But first here is a henna pic, the Karishma henna is gggreat (in my Tony the Tiger voice), I can't wait to do another.  Oh, and I must say my hair had no problems reverting back to curly :)  I flat ironed the same way as in my video here.

Lovin my hair and the versatility.  I wore my hair straight for the last three weeks, this time I may just do two but if by the end of  the second week my hair is still looking good I will go one more and then do another henna,  or maybe just an Amla treatment, bout the same as Henna but just won't give me any more color cause I like where it is now.

The past few weeks since my last hair update have been wonderful, I have been in hair heaven with my new simple hair regimen. I am coming up to my one year anniversary of being natural and have finally figured out what my hair likes and doesn't like...yeah it took a year. So, I decided to keep it simple until the end of the year with no special hairstyles, ie my twists, but I am still using my shea butter, just can't live without it, I was on a protective style challenge with twists but the last time I took the twists out I just didn't have time to put them back in. So the rest of my challenge is consisting of this: co-washing every Saturday and a deep condition, throughout the week I apply shea butter/coconut oil to my hair every night and in the mornings I spray with warm water and apply some Hawaiian Silky Curl Activator. If you recall the last post was about the Activator that I am still using and loooove it! My hair is doing wonderful and stays moisturized and soft all day. I didn't shampoo my hair, I figured if I am only washing once a week I shouldn't need to shampoo but once a month, we'll see how that turns out. But on the other hand, if I am clarifying once a month do I really need a shampoo? What you think?

This past Thursday I also did a henna treatment, I decided to check out the India Mart here and see if they carried some "real" henna and they did, my product of choice was the Reshma brand just because a fellow blogger always uses and gives great reviews. I have to admit I loved it too, not to mention it was only $2.99, after mixing some EVOO with it I applied it and let set for almost two hours and rinsed it out it gave my hair a great shine and even brightened up my hair color some more.

Stay tuned for my next post, I will be cleaning out my bathroom cabinet and getting rid of the products I don't use, lets see what I find.

Henna /Cassia: What's the Diff?

Four weeks ago Idecided to tyr Neutral Henna in my hair. I must say that stuff is amazing , I fell in love with it even though it looked like I washed my hair in mud. OMG! My hair totally responded well to it. I was thinking I will never use anything else again. Then, all of a sudden I see the words Cassia and Amla, now I am confused, did I miss something? What are they? I had to be nosey so I did a little research, I wanted to find out the difference in these three natural products. What did I find out. . . they are all basically the same thing, there is no difference, they are all totally good for the hair and do basically the same thing. So for all of you wondering the same thing, this is for you.

Henna and Cassia: Same difference. Neutral Henna is actually from the Cassia Obovata plant that helps condition and add shine to the hair. The neutral henna is colorless, that is nondying, and there is also henna that is used to add a hint of color to the hair. Henna/Cassia is a fine, green powder that really does smell like grass or green tea, when mixed with warm water it turns into a pastey substance and can be applied to the hair. Here is some info.



HENNA:
Natural conditioner
Keeps hair shiny and soft
Curl Enhancer and texturizer
Non drying
Can be used once a month
Can be mixed with Cassia and Amla

CASSIA:
Natural hair conditioner, thickener
Adds shine
Curl enhancer
Nondrying
Can be used once a month
Can be mixed with Henna and Amla

AMLA:
Natural conditioner, volumizer
Curl enhancer
Non dryingCan be used once a moCan be mixed with Henna and Cassia
Can be used as a facial scrub and toner
Known as Indian Gooseberry

How To Use:

1. Mix Henna/Cassia with warm water.
2. Apply to clean dry or damp hair from the root down (damp hair is better). A perm brush works great for application.
3. Wrap hair in plastic wrap or put on a shower cap, let set for 1 hour.
4. Rinse hair thoroughly, removing all residue.
5. Style.
6. Repeat monthly for healthy, thick, shiny hair.

The only con is this stuff is seedy so it is a good idea to sift before using. Trust me or you will be picking seeds from your hair. Yes the application is a hot mess but the end result is HOT!

I lasted a week without washing my hair, by Friday morning I could tell that it was ready for a wash. I am going to try it again and do a co-wash on Wednesday but I will be using my Suave Coconut Conditioner, Aubrey Organics is only for my weekend wash. I am a deep conditioning now and getting ready to rinse. I thought I would try the shingling technique today and see how that does I am kinda of skeptical on what product to use I have the Miss Jessie's products or the Black Earth Products, I will try both, one today and maybe one tomorrow to see which one works best.
