Hair Updat

Look how shiny
You can't really tell, but my hair was so soft after the henna and wash
and my curls were more defined.

Messy!

I lasted a week without washing my hair, by Friday morning I could tell that it was ready for a wash. I am going to try it again and do a co-wash on Wednesday but I will be using my Suave Coconut Conditioner, Aubrey Organics is only for my weekend wash. I am a deep conditioning now and getting ready to rinse. I thought I would try the shingling technique today and see how that does I am kinda of skeptical on what product to use I have the Miss Jessie's products or the Black Earth Products, I will try both, one today and maybe one tomorrow to see which one works best. Until then here are some pics of my first henna.

New Moisturization

So, Friday I went to Whole Foods, our neighborhood organic market and picked up some Aubrey Organics Hydrating Camomille Shampoo and Conditioner and a jar of Rainbow Neutral Henna Conditioner. I also got some free samples of Taliah Waajid Black Earth Products ( also natural products) the Lock It Up and African Healing Oyl. I was so excited and could not wait to try out my new stuff. Before I could henna I had to wash my hair. I loved the AO shampoo, my hair was so soft just from the shampoo and as it air dried it did not get rough or dried out. Next I did a strand test on a back strand of my hair, I mixed the henna as specified and applied, let it sit for and hour and rinsed it out with the AO conditioner. Lovely is all I can say. Satisfied, I mixed the rest of the henna and put it in my hair it smell and looked like green tea. After an hour I rinsed the henna from my hair, it did take about two wash and rinses to get the small seeds and grass or what nots out of my hair, but I did it. I deep conditioned for about thirty minutes and rinsed that out after my hair was a little damp but not soaking wet I applied a quarter size amout of the Lock It Up ( the package says it is for chemical free hair). My hair has been so soft since Saturday, I haven't washed it yet usually I have to wash every other day. At night I apply my Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and put on my satin bonnet, in the morning I spray with my Hawaiian Silky Moisturizer and Sheen and rub a bit of the Lock It Up and it is moisturized for the rest of the day. I love it and my hair is responding very well it has defined my natural coils and added moisture at the same time, all I was aiming for was the moisture. The biggest test area were my temples because they seem to be the driest part of my hair but they are even curly and very soft, I am impressed. I am hoping that I can go till Wednesday before I need to wash or until the weekend. If I do feel the need to wash before Saturday I will be using my Suave Coconut conditioner because Aubrey was ten dollars a bottle and that needs to stretch as far as it can. If this gets me through the week, I will say that I have found my moisture regimen. I will definitely update about this moisturizing journey on Saturday my normal hair washing day. Until then. . . .

The End

So, I have not washed my hair in two weeks, the picture I am posting is the last style before the BW ( Big Wash). I can't believe I went this long, my hair is still soft mainly because I have been moisturizing it every night, retwisting it, and sleeping in a satin cap. My morinings have been so much easier. I went from braids in the front and back and wore that for a week. Then Friday night I took the braids out and wore a twist out in the back for a few days, my husband liked that look better though he was not enthused about seeing the twists every night. So last night I took the front braids out and did a twist out all over this morning I decided to pull it back into a little fro and I love it. I don't know when I want to wash my hair now, maybe I will wear it one more day and wash it Friday. Oh the possibilities. . . .

Graduation Fast Approaching

Yes, it is true, I will finally be a college graduate and I am so excited. I have been in school fulltime for the past two years and working a fulltime job. Actually the years have flown by. May 27 will be a happy occassion for me and my family, I will have an Associates of Science Degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) and graduating with honors. Yes beauty and brains :) I have been on the Dean's List since I have been in school, so proud of myself as is my husband. He has been alot of help, at home with the girls in the evening three days out of the week, not to mention I have been doing externship for the past fourteen weeks five days a week. I rush home from work to leave back out the house to make it to the hospital (I call it the free job) by 5:30 and if you knew the traffic in Memphis, Tn then you know there is lots of it. Then I am home by 9:00pm. My husband takes great care of the girls, feeding them, bathing them and homework with Ilana who is in Kindergarten. Yes he has his complaints, what man wouldn't. But he lets me know how proud he is of me all the time. I truly have to say that I could not have done it without God also, cause Lord only knows how tired I am, especially on those nights when he gave me strength to go to class when I was tired after work and all I wanted to do was get in the bed and go to sleep. I am proud of myself also, for persevering and studying and making all those "A's", and making my self go to class when I wanted to go to sleep, and also staying up late at night trying to write an type up papers (cause I am a procrastinator). I am excited to be going into a new field after working with children for the past ten years. This will be my last year at the elementary school where I work, I will miss all my co workers, my kindergartners who I tutor, and all my vacations; summer break, Christmas break, Fall break, and all the three and four day weekends in between :( But this is my new beginning and I know God is going to open many doors for me, I believe it.

Another hairstyle

Front view of my braids
Back view of twist out. I love the poofy-ness
It is very soft.

Side view

So here are some pics of another hair do. I had it braided in the front and up the back, wore that all week and just took the back down last night. These are picks of the front braided and the rest of my hair in a twist out. This style should last me another week, we shall see.

I got a new "do"

So this weekend I decided to do something different with my hair. Saturday I did my routine wash and then I blowdried my hair, yes, I wore my first afro out and about and wore it proud and cute. LOL! Surprisingly, my husband even liked it, that is a good thing. He was all like that's what you wanted to do wasn't it? I was like yeah, he is so supportive. Anywho, I blowdried it with a paddle brush first on the cool and low setting then I went back and used the comb attachment on the same setting. Afterwards I applied my homemade whipped shea butter and rubbed it all through and took the hair dryer and just held it to my hair just so it would melt the butter, my hair was so soft. It was amazing to see the difference between my first cut and now, it has grown alot. I pulled my hair back and tied my leopard print scarf around my hair and enjoyed the day with my family, you could not tell me I wasn't cute :) For church on Sunday I did a twist out on the back and pulled my hair back in a head band. I don't have a pic of that one. Sunday evening I got my hair braided all the way around into a pony tail with the same blowout and I am wearing a twistout at the top, tomorrow I will post a pic of that hairstyle. But for now here are the pics of my "bodacious blowout" hope you like. Until next time......

My first real compiment

Yeah, so today my family and I were at the grocery store doing a little shopping and a complete stranger walked by my way and told me she "loved my hair" she just doesn't know how she made my day. I told her thank you about two times. After she walked by I told my husband "that lady said she liked my hair," he gave me a grin. Considering that I had been at work all day and was so busy with the students that I did not refeshen my curls at all through out the day. Sunday I am getting a braided hairtyle so I can keep my fingers out of my head and the water too until it warms up here alittle bit more too. I will definitely post a pic.
