Protective Style for My Little One

One week of protective style down, 7 more weeks to go.  It is summer vacation and the protecting is on  for the rest of the summer for my Big Girl.  This past week she just wore her hair in 6 cornrows to the back, I gave her a little side part just for a little extra cuteness - sorry no picture.

So today I redid her hair for another week, I did not wash since it was cleaned on last weekend and I did not use lots of products so we were good to go.  Here is her style, cute and simple

Two twists going down the sides with twists on the ends...

and cornrows up to a ponytail also twisted on the ends
and pinned into a bun...

this style should give me another week if it stays
pinned up.

Have a great weekend!!!

One Month In

I am one month in to my 6 mmonth hair challenge that I am attempting with Health Hair and Body, I am so proud of myself.  I think it has been easy since my hair is now long enough to twist and pin up or clip into a ponytail.  I am also enjoying not having to figure out what to do with it on a daily basis, since the weaher is now crazy and rain is in the forecast at least twice a week this is working great.
I have not changed the routine and when I wash I stick to the same products, no buying "just to see", but that is a whole other challenge.
I might have mentioned this before but oh well, I have been shampooing every two weeks and retwisting every week to keep it fresh.
Here is the style for this month, yes I said month cause again it keeps me from thinking to hard about the next style.

Sorry about the towel in pic :(

Have a Happy Hair Day!!

Third week of Challenge

Today starts my third week of my challenge and so far so good.  I decided to wash every two weeks cause that just works for me.  I keep it twisted for the week and wear a twist out on Saturday to retwist on Sunday and moisturize throughout the week.

I washed and retwisted last night, it was definitely time for some water to hit my hair.  I have been using a pre poo mixture that my hair has been loving,  I can tell the difference with it.  I tried a new hair style for the next two weeks, how ya like??
I wasn't trying to make the parts too perfect cause nobody would see it.
So proud of my hair growth!!!

And here is it all twisted  and pinned up, I think this styled
turned out really cute, unfortunately this won't be
coming down for a twist out  this weekend
but I will freshen the twists up on Sunday.
I will once again use my aloe vera juice and oil blend and shea butter mixture for that.
I will do another challenge update in two more weeks so stay tuned...

Hair Challenge

I know everyone does a hair challenge all the time but do you really stick with it (with a shoulder shrug)???  I'm about to try, just got through my first week and it was very simple, partly because we had rain and and it needed to be put up.  This challenge was right on time cause my straight natural had come to an end after 5 weeks.  I decided to follow Healthy Hair and Body's blog challenge for the next 6 months, the biggest challenge for me will be just sticking to the challenge itself, especially when the Spring comes and I feel urge to wear my twist out, ok maybe I will do that occassionally.
Anywhoooo, I retwisted last night using a spritz mixture of aloe vera juice, jojoba oil, carrot oil, olive oil, and glycerin then my shea butter mixture over that, twists turned out great. Oh and I also detangled with my new favorite item the Tangle Teezer, I had given up on the Denman long time ago, I think it was doing some damage to my hair.

It's long enough where I don't have to make
the twists bigger and pin them up.

New Do

I have been rockin a micro twist style for the past two weeks and boy have my mornings been great.  Well I had to go to a funeral on Saturday and did not want to wear my regular old twists, plus I have job interview on Monday (whoo hoo) and I wanted a different style since I am not ready to take these out for another week. Thanks to a natural hair blogger ( Leave In The Kinks) I decided to pin in it and see what I could come up with after seeing her do a cute style.  The pictures below show my style off.  I love it, and I got plenty of compliments at the funeral.  My twists are still there all I did was grab a few and make bigger twists then twisted, pinned, and what ever else.  This style will last me until Saturday and then time for a washing  and getting ready for my trip to Las Vegas on the March 12 for my sisters wedding so I can have some big hair.

Protective Style: Not Too Micro Braids

So I finally got my video together, I'm a wife and mother of two, my life is totally busy. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to cut out because the two vids together was too long so I just broke them up and made two. The first one is getting my hair ready for braiding, I washed that morning and blowdried using a heat protectant. The second vid is the finished product and what not, I finally finished the braids and realized I don't braid as fast as I use to. Check them out.

Cowashing and twisting

Hey all, alright so I made my two week mark with my twist and I feel like my hair really needs to be washed. It doesn't smell bad or anything but to me it looks like it needs to be washed so I am going to do a co-wash. Now, last months braids did not get a washing in between and by the time I washed it I could tell it hadn't been washed in a while so this time I decided to wash. I am going to use a new conditioner I picked up, I won't reveal it until the end of this experiment, then I am going to add some of my shea butter/oil mixture and use my perm rods to curl it while wet and let it air dry over night. I have been using the perm rods once a week to give me a little different style it's actually cute, of course my husband did not notice until I said something, just like a man. I will be posting pictures of the turn out tomorrow so stay tuned and wish me luck

Nothing New

Nothing new to brag about in my hair world, except my twists are finally back in after two weeks of letting it rest. I finally got tired and put in the twists, boy am I glad I a did. One week down and three more to go. I had good hair growth the past two months with twists put in place I won't measure again until another two months. One thing I want to try though is washing after the second week, my hair doesn't get itchy but I just want to clean it in between, I have never done this before so I am nervous. I figured I would just cowash, and just let the shower water run through my hair to rinse and then doing the same with a deep conditioner. Since my twist love to shrivel up when wet I will use clips to pin them down while they are drying, that will help them hold their length. Hope all goes well, I will post how that goes. Until then Happy Natural.

Back on the payroll

No not a new job, but at the elementary school. It's kind of bittersweet, I am ready to move on but thank God for a job. Well I am thinking of taking a break for a while, only about a week :) I have been looking for a job everyday for eight weeks so I think I will take a break and wait to see what happens, I am just so eager to begin my new career. I have a fear of having a degree and not the job to go with it, cause it does happen. My husband keeps telling me that it is just a test that I have to pass and I know it is, but believe me I do thank God for my job and everything I do do at work I do it with a smile no matter how much I don't want to. Anywho, I am just glad to be back on the payroll cause my checking account is bone dry. Until then, later gators.
BTW, I am on week three of my protective twists styling, it's getting easier, I don't have the urge to want to take down my hair and experiment with it. Surely it will get more simpler as time goes on. Keep you updated,

New protective styles

I need a new protective style. I am braiding diva but hate doing them mysel and can't stand the thought of paying somebody else to do them...but I want some. I have been weighting my options cause I just can't see myself twisting my hair all day every two weeks. Don't worry I am going to keep my challenge up, btw I added shea butter to the challenge, but just need a different protective style and need to decide my Friday so I can hook it up by the weekend. Of course cornrows with extensions to the back is an option but I feel like I have a funny shaped head, had those before, another idea flat twists with extensions, my last option...tree braids, now those are the bomb diggy.
Has anyone ever heard of these, they are so simple to do but too expensive to get done, sorry ya'll I am cheap about some stuff. So now I need to decide which style I want to do, cause the two strand twists are out the window. I will be posting pictures of the style I chose, until then check out my work.

Another protective style

So I know I said I did not care for protective styles, but here is another style. I did these on Tuesday night, to twist I used a homemade moisturizing buttercreme that I concocted myself. OMG! that stuff turned out so great, smooth and soft, and it does not leave residue. Not to mention my hair has been nice and moisturized since using. I made it for my daughters' hair, but they have been at grandma's house so I just tried it for myself, can't wait to use it them.

Recipe: (something like this, but you can mix accordingly)
2 oz shea butter
1 oz Palmer Coconut hair lotion
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp coconut oil
about 1 oz vegetable glycerin

Conditioner Only

I have been trying to upload a video I made but for some reason it will not take, so I had to upload each video seperately. I love the result of the conditoner only, I've had my hair in this style since Thursday and surprisingly I like it, but we will see how long it lasts, don't want my hair to start locking. I don't know how I ended up with all those funny faces.

Protective Hairstyles

I have been debating about what types of protective hairstyle I should get, there are so many to choose from. I haven't made up my mind yet but here are some ideas. Here are my top four and a littel info on them:

Two/Three Strand Twists: This is where you use two or three strands of hair and twist around each other all the way around until you reach the ends of the hair. Two strand twists are easy as are the strand twist but they are a little bit difficult to explain how to do. I like the three strand twists because they hold better than the two strands. I do three strands on my daughter because they hold her fine hair better. I found out about the three strand twist on youtube a couple of years ago, I will try to get a video uploaded on how to do a two strand twist.

Roller Set (Using perm rods): Farely easy to do, perm rods are the small colorful rollers with the elastic band on it. Using your favorite products wrap your hair around the roller, let air dry or sit under a hairdryer. After hair is completely dry carefully remove rollers and and seperate curls into about three sections. Beautiful curls!

Braids: Self explanatory. You can use your own hair or add hair extensions, whatever floats your boat. They can be individual or cornrows.

Flat Twists: Flat twists are much like cornrows except they are twisted using two strands of hair. Very simple to do with some practice.

Basically any hairstyle that keeps you from manipulating your hair is a protective style. Try which ever style makes you comfortable, is easy for you to do, and is easy for you to take care of for a few or several days. What ever style you try make sure you Rock It!
