Blow out on natural hair

Sunday I decided to blow my hair out on a whim and boy has it grown. I played around with it and was l loving the after, but what to do afterwards cause I had to go to work the next day. Sooo, I did two bih flat twists down the side and some kind of twist in the back, I think it turned out cute.
Oh and I finally ordered me some sample products from My Honey Child, I have been trying to getsome for a while.I ordered some Honey Hair Creme and Sophia's Coconut Hair Jel...can't wait to try these out.Until then enjoy the pictures.

Baby Girls New Do

My Baby Girl's hair was done this weekend, she has lots of hair so it only gets washed about every 3 to 4 weeks, yes I have said it before sometimes her hair gets washed once a month, it's not worth the fight.
So I washed with Carols Daughter Hair Milk shampoo and detangled with the conditioner and my Tangle Teezer.  And while I am on that subject I wish the Teezer had some kind of handle on it cause that thing kept slipping from my hand, very frustrating.
Once again, I blowdried cause in these winter months her hair just does better.  For styling I we went a different route, usually she will get pony tails but I decided to braid it up for a while, when going through Happy Girl Hair I noticed this style and thought it was cute so I tried it but deviated a bit to put my own spin on it and her hair turned out cute.
First things first though:
hair before washing, she didn't even cry today.

Serious shrinkage!!
Washed hair after being detangled and rinsed.
Ready for styling!!
Look at all that hair, I would cry too.
End results:
I think this style turned out so cute on her and should
last her the rest of the week.  She has very sensitive
skin and will not sleep in a scarf
or satin cap so I am praying this holds.

I did blowdry her hair even after knowing that her braids usually don't last long that way, but I plan on refreshing every weekend and that will get me through the month just in time for another shampoo.

Big Girl Got Growth

I washed my Big Girls hair on yesterday using my Carol's Daughter Hair Milk shampoo and conditioner, once again I love that conditioner and the shampoo wasn't bad on her hair either.  She had her hair in a protective style the past three weeks and it was time to take the braids out, the bad thing though is she had a lot of shedding, more than usual and that scared me.  I decided to give her hair a rest with the braids and twists so I blow dried and flat ironed her hair, the last time I did this was in September for class pictures, this time she had some good growth.
To blow dry I used Kimmay Leave in and Elasta QP Design Silk heat protectant for her ends.  Like I said before I rarely use heat on my daughters hair except for very special occasions and when I do it lasts for a good three weeks then it is time to wash again.

can't tell the differnce in the growth but there is especailly

Measures my hair

Another snow day from work.....the sun is shining and everything is melting.  Unfortunately, we have some back road bus routes and for the safety of children no bussing, and if they can't go to school neither can the rest of the county...go figure.  And supposedly if the weather man is right we will be off again on Monday if we get more snow.
But anyways, I thought I would do length check of my hair and see where I am at.
 Front= 8in
Sides= 8in (my hair grows slow there, also dealing with this sides)
Tip Top= 9in, not surprised, always grows the longest, I think that is with everyone.
Back= 8.5in, grows fast there too.

As my challenge to myself I am going to continue my growth retention/challenge until the summer, I will not be doing another measurement until then, I know it has been a few months since I did a lenght check.  I need to go back and find the last one cause that's not something I was really keeping up with, life is way too busy for that.

Todays Hair.  Have a great day.

Natural Cuteness: All Braided Up

Thanks to Beads, Braids, & Beyond I gave my girls the cutest braided hairstyles.  She had  a tutorial on and I thought it was the cutest thing for a little girl, so I got to braiding.  On my Big Girl I did hers sideways and since her hair is not as long I pin curled it and secured with pins.  On Baby Girl I I gave her a slant to the side because I don't like for her braids to go straight back, she won't keep the pins in her hair though (she is just not a hair person).  I think it turned out pretty cute, this should last for a few weeks.
The little one finally let me untwist her hair, I had to show her the style she was going to get and get her approval.

A "Littlre" Natural Cuteness

I finally got to Baby Girls hair, it was a wonderful feeling.  It took me about a whole days time to get those micro braids out of her hair, surprisingly she had a good amount of growth. I shampooed, deep conditioned and styled in two strand twists they should last through the week if up in a ponytail.
Here's what I did
Shampoo: Taliah Waajid Black Earth Shampoo (diluted)
Conditioner: Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
DC: Organics Hair Mayonnaise mixed with a little Vatika Oil
Leave In; Kimmay's Leave In Conditioner
Style: Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue (cause I have a little left that I'm really trying to use up)

That's momma's baby.

New Do

I have been rockin a micro twist style for the past two weeks and boy have my mornings been great.  Well I had to go to a funeral on Saturday and did not want to wear my regular old twists, plus I have job interview on Monday (whoo hoo) and I wanted a different style since I am not ready to take these out for another week. Thanks to a natural hair blogger ( Leave In The Kinks) I decided to pin in it and see what I could come up with after seeing her do a cute style.  The pictures below show my style off.  I love it, and I got plenty of compliments at the funeral.  My twists are still there all I did was grab a few and make bigger twists then twisted, pinned, and what ever else.  This style will last me until Saturday and then time for a washing  and getting ready for my trip to Las Vegas on the March 12 for my sisters wedding so I can have some big hair.

Natural Hair Meetup

I forgot to post about my meeting on Saturday. I went to a Natural Hair meetup here in Memphis, I took my sister along with me because she is straight rockin her Locs, we had a great time. There were about ten of us, some had Locs, some had natural curls, and some were in the process of transitioning and just need alittle encouraging. It was nice to sit back and discuss hair with people who know what you are talking about instead of looking at you crazy when you mention something only us natural folks know about. I came across this meetup.com and that is where I found out about the group. Next meeting will be in February, looking forward to it.

Also, here is a picture of my sister. This picture was taken this past summer after getting a rod set, her hair is much longer now. She is verrry low maintenance, so the Locs are right up her allsy. She is so cute :)

Being Natural Rocks

So yesterday I started to detangle my hair and noticed that it was alittle difficult to do, mainly because I have been too lazy and I have not performed this task in about two weeks. Bad Natural! Well when the regular brushes I use were not working I just stopped altogether and finally decided that I might need a Denman brush. I kept putting off buying one because I refused to pay $10 for it, but I went on to Sally's anyways. The sales lady and I got to talking about hair after I asked they had a cheaper one and she said no :( after talking bout brushes I learned that she use to be a fellow curly and she wants to go back, on top of that she gave me a $2.00 discount on the brush. She rocks! I came home happy to perform the task at hand. I love the Denman, I wish I had bought it earlier... but then I would not have gotten the discount. LOL! I detangled and put in two strand twists for a twist out for church today. Below are a few pictures of my twist out, achieved using a spray bottle filled with water, conditioner (?), and oil. I don't know which conditioner was in it but my twists and twist-out turned out soft and great. And there are a few picutres of my girls, aren't they cute.

Hairstylin and profilin

Here are a few pics of my hair now. Friday I took my twists out and have been rocking a twist out for the past few days. It is definitely in need of a wash but every time I say I am going to wash it something else comes up: ballet classes on Monday, open house at school Tuesday and Wednesday I have Bible studies, can't skip out on that. I guess I will have to wait until Thursday. I am so ready to wash and clarify, I had great results with that.

I am also working on a video update, hopefully it will be ready by this weekend, which I will be busy again, my church is doing a 5k walk that I am part of. so as soon as it is ready I will post it, until then enjoy the pics. These pictures were taken on Friday afternoon, now that the style is older it has gotten even cuter, I will take pictures on tomorrow so you can see the difference. Check out the earrings, I love it!

Part mohawk, part twist out

I ran across these pictures I forgot I took the other day. I took down my twists on Wednesday morning and wore a twist out, I thought they would flatten when I slept on them but they didn't. The next day my twist out still looked fresh so I took some pictures.

Ponytail

Here is a pic of my natural ponytail I wore today. How did I do it?
*Washed hair
*Applied shea butter mixture for moisturizing then applied Infusium 23 Leave In
*Blowdried ( yes blow dried, it's not for everybody) on low heat then applied more shea butter
* Gelled with a little eco styler gel and tied down with a scarf. To hold my ponytail I used my knee hi thingy and added a flower for decoration.

This style does have a purpose, I am going to retwist my hair on tomorrow, I think having my hair blow dried makes easier twisting for me. Next time you see a pic of me I will have a new style. Until later gators.
Voila!

Sunday Hair

Ya'll, here is my cute Sunday style I did for church today. Last night I did about six flat twists down the back and did a twist out this morning. Then I did two large flat twists in the front and pinned them down. My sides are thin(always have been) so I smoothed them back with a little gel and tied a scarf around for while to hold it back, after that I was ready to go. Boy did I think I was cute, who would've thought that a TWA could be so cute. Check it out.

Two strand twist out

So I put colored Henna in my hair this past Sunday, the color: Chestnut (Medium Brown). I love it. At first I thought it didn't take, I left it on for two hours when I rinsed out it still looked dark, but the next morning I wet my hair and applied my hair products and Wow, I could see the difference. It's very subtle just like I wanted it to be. I definitely like it better than the almost black looking that it was before, next time I will let it set a little while longer.
Last night I also came across a site called tightlycurly.com, great site, her rules and techniques had my hair doing things I didn't think it could do. I tried her "Curly Primer" on some of my hair and loved it. What it is is conditioner only, yes left in your hair and styling either twirling ( the method I tried) or combing through your hair with your fingers. For super coily hair like mine the twirling is best. You apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair and style, she had a list of conditioners that she recommended and whatdoya know she listed my Organix Shea Butter conditioner so of course I whipped mine out and went for it, I did the back part of my head just to see what it would do, taking small parts of hair, I just twirled the hair around my fingers all the way to the ends. I was loving the effects. So sad I had to wash it out cause I did not have time to let it dry before bed, so instead I applied shea butter to my damp hair and did two strand twists and a twist out this morning and I might I add it was quite cute. Man you can really tell my hair has grown when it is twisted. Don't worry though I am going to do the twirlies tomorrow and I will post pics of the outcome , until then here are pics of MY Funky Fro.

Protective Hairstyles

I have been debating about what types of protective hairstyle I should get, there are so many to choose from. I haven't made up my mind yet but here are some ideas. Here are my top four and a littel info on them:

Two/Three Strand Twists: This is where you use two or three strands of hair and twist around each other all the way around until you reach the ends of the hair. Two strand twists are easy as are the strand twist but they are a little bit difficult to explain how to do. I like the three strand twists because they hold better than the two strands. I do three strands on my daughter because they hold her fine hair better. I found out about the three strand twist on youtube a couple of years ago, I will try to get a video uploaded on how to do a two strand twist.

Roller Set (Using perm rods): Farely easy to do, perm rods are the small colorful rollers with the elastic band on it. Using your favorite products wrap your hair around the roller, let air dry or sit under a hairdryer. After hair is completely dry carefully remove rollers and and seperate curls into about three sections. Beautiful curls!

Braids: Self explanatory. You can use your own hair or add hair extensions, whatever floats your boat. They can be individual or cornrows.

Flat Twists: Flat twists are much like cornrows except they are twisted using two strands of hair. Very simple to do with some practice.

Basically any hairstyle that keeps you from manipulating your hair is a protective style. Try which ever style makes you comfortable, is easy for you to do, and is easy for you to take care of for a few or several days. What ever style you try make sure you Rock It!

My first real compiment

Yeah, so today my family and I were at the grocery store doing a little shopping and a complete stranger walked by my way and told me she "loved my hair" she just doesn't know how she made my day. I told her thank you about two times. After she walked by I told my husband "that lady said she liked my hair," he gave me a grin. Considering that I had been at work all day and was so busy with the students that I did not refeshen my curls at all through out the day. Sunday I am getting a braided hairtyle so I can keep my fingers out of my head and the water too until it warms up here alittle bit more too. I will definitely post a pic.
