Big Girls protective style for the week

I hope this style lasts for at least 2 weeks. It was most definitely time for the mohawk to come down and be on to another style. So we shampooed and I came up with this, nothing fancy I have seen several girls with this style, the only thing different is that I did the ends in ghana plaits with the weaving thread. The extra hair I wrapped into a ball and added a hairbow. I love it and so does Big Girl.
Next "project" is Baby Girls hair (yes her hair is a project)
Have a great weekend!

Ghana plaits on Baby Girl

Long time no see...shame on me.
So much has been going on: hair, jewelry, home, etc...
Last weekend I did Ghana plaits on my Baby Girls hair cause I was just tired of dealing with her hair every morning, plus the day I washed I just knew I was not going to have time to blow dry then flat iron so she ended up with this style which turned out so cute.
Flat twists in the front section with the loose ends
wrapped in weaving thread.

Three ghana plaits in the back.

This was so simple to do but definitely time consuming, but I would do it again.  To see how to do it and other videos go here or search Youtube.
Here are a few more pics of the process.

The back part of her hair went into
three ponytails then wrapped
with weaving thread

Wrap all the way to the ends.

Last I put the three small pontytails into
one big one and wrap with the thread.
last wrap into a knot and finished.
One week down, one more to go!

Can't wait to try another style, already got one in mind.

Box braid cuties

Once again we have moved on to another protective style, the past week the girls had small cornrows that looked a hot mess by yesterday with all the swimming they do in the summer. This time I decided to do box braids, a first for them, hopefully we can get two weeks out of this style.

Before taking the cornrows out I softened the hair with a spritz of water, a little VO5 moisture milk, it hlps taking those little braids out much easier. I then shampooed conditioned, and DC'd, since it had been a while for that. Yes I do DC my girls hair about once a month.
To each braid section I sprayed the same spritz  mixture as above but added aloe vera juice and olive oil then sealed with my whipped mango butter, perfection, their hair turned out great.

Naturally Cute

So a whole week has gone by since I did Big Girls lace style and surprisingly it held up well with sleeping in a satin cap and flexirods every night.  So now it is time for a new style for her, for three days I have been looking and thinking of what to do next that would last for another week, I do not like combing hair much cause between the three of us we got enough kinky hair to add to two more heads.  My hair had to be washed plus Baby Girl needed a style.
Here is the next style:

I did  not wash because there was no need, neither did I add any more heat.
I thought this would be a nice style for her and continue with the "loose hair" (this will be the last week for that).  Normaly she wears her hair  in a protective style for three weeks but we had a bit of a shedding issue so we let that go for a while and she likes picking out new styles.
I am so excited about her growth, when she turned 4 her hair started breaking off and got really short and a little thin, I did not know what else to do but start giving her protective styles and so I did exactly that.  The results have been awesome.
this was 2.5 years ago, hair was flat ironed
for family pictures. Before this it
was alittle shorter.

I believe in protective styles, she is in them 90% of the time, that is more than me. I definitely contribute that to the growth and health of her hair, I watch the products I use in my daughters hair, if I wouldn't use it in mine then I don't use it in theirs.
Here are a few protective style pics:

Big Girls Lace style hair

New hairstyle for my Big Girl got a new style today and it is so cute.  Before I get to the pictures though let me tell you about this site I found on yesterday, Hairstyles For Girl-The Story of a Princess and Her Hair, and she has the cutest styles for girls...I was am in love.  The Style Gallery has so many pictures of styles that I can't wait to try, I think I will try a style a week. My daughter loves hairstyles, everytime we go onto a BSS she is like mommy I want that style (pointing to the style on the perm box) and I always tell her she no cause I am looking at the perm box instead of the style.  Well no more, the site above gave some super cute ideas and since I am not a creator I will be giving these creations a try.  And don't worry I will give credit where credit is due.

Check it out:
First I parted hair from ear to ear

Then proceeded in connecting ponytails
I think it is soooo cute on her and she loves it.
Sorry had to make this quick gotta get to work.

Baby Girls New Do

My Baby Girl's hair was done this weekend, she has lots of hair so it only gets washed about every 3 to 4 weeks, yes I have said it before sometimes her hair gets washed once a month, it's not worth the fight.
So I washed with Carols Daughter Hair Milk shampoo and detangled with the conditioner and my Tangle Teezer.  And while I am on that subject I wish the Teezer had some kind of handle on it cause that thing kept slipping from my hand, very frustrating.
Once again, I blowdried cause in these winter months her hair just does better.  For styling I we went a different route, usually she will get pony tails but I decided to braid it up for a while, when going through Happy Girl Hair I noticed this style and thought it was cute so I tried it but deviated a bit to put my own spin on it and her hair turned out cute.
First things first though:
hair before washing, she didn't even cry today.

Serious shrinkage!!
Washed hair after being detangled and rinsed.
Ready for styling!!
Look at all that hair, I would cry too.
End results:
I think this style turned out so cute on her and should
last her the rest of the week.  She has very sensitive
skin and will not sleep in a scarf
or satin cap so I am praying this holds.

I did blowdry her hair even after knowing that her braids usually don't last long that way, but I plan on refreshing every weekend and that will get me through the month just in time for another shampoo.

Big Girl Got Growth

I washed my Big Girls hair on yesterday using my Carol's Daughter Hair Milk shampoo and conditioner, once again I love that conditioner and the shampoo wasn't bad on her hair either.  She had her hair in a protective style the past three weeks and it was time to take the braids out, the bad thing though is she had a lot of shedding, more than usual and that scared me.  I decided to give her hair a rest with the braids and twists so I blow dried and flat ironed her hair, the last time I did this was in September for class pictures, this time she had some good growth.
To blow dry I used Kimmay Leave in and Elasta QP Design Silk heat protectant for her ends.  Like I said before I rarely use heat on my daughters hair except for very special occasions and when I do it lasts for a good three weeks then it is time to wash again.

End of the week hair

It's the end of the week and my twist outs were great all week, still using Shea Moisture Conditioning Milk and coconut shea butter.  Needless to say it is about to be over...on Sunday.  No hair washing today giving myself a break, last Saturday I washed my hair and my daughters hair and gave them a protective style that will hopefully last another two weeks before all the rubberbands pop.  I wish my Baby Girl would sleep with a scarf but it irritates hair her nape something awful so her hair usually doesn't last as long.
Also I won't be doing my Amla/black tea treatment that I am loving, it will just get a regular cowash on Sunday and twisted back up. I really can't stress how much I can tell the difference in my hair, no hair fall at all, hmmm, there is something going on here!!  Next weekend I will definitely be doing a henna and amla mix I promise.  Until then check out a few pictures of our hair.

Sneak Peak at my Big Girls hair

As I said earlier school is starting back on Monday and we are protective styling over here.  I got my micro twists and I have started on my Big Girl's hair, she is very excited to have her hair like her mommy's and I am excited to not have to do her hair in the mornings.  She started off with a good shampoo and then a DC of my coconut milk conditioner mix and sat under the dryer for about 30 minutes, her hair was super soft after that treatment,  I am sure her cuticles were thanking me.  For her twists I just used my super soft shealoe mixture that gives great shine and hold and not to mention how soft it leaves the hair.  Here are a few pictures of her hair partway finished.

What's in your purse?

I know I just did a post but my  Baby Girl is sitting beside me playing in her purse and I just have to tell what she has in it: sunglasses, two remote controls, a walkie talkie, two wallets, some change (she spent her money), and keys, and yes she carries it with her everywhere we go.  She is so cute and a hot mess at times but you gotta love her.

Natural Cuteness: All Braided Up

Thanks to Beads, Braids, & Beyond I gave my girls the cutest braided hairstyles.  She had  a tutorial on and I thought it was the cutest thing for a little girl, so I got to braiding.  On my Big Girl I did hers sideways and since her hair is not as long I pin curled it and secured with pins.  On Baby Girl I I gave her a slant to the side because I don't like for her braids to go straight back, she won't keep the pins in her hair though (she is just not a hair person).  I think it turned out pretty cute, this should last for a few weeks.
The little one finally let me untwist her hair, I had to show her the style she was going to get and get her approval.

Happy 4th and a few updates

So Happy 4th and everything else. Here are a few hairstyle pictures from my weekend including some of my Big Girl, she wore her first twist out, I usually don't let her wear her hair out but she is getting a little older so I thought I would let her get some natural action on Saturday.  My Baby Girl did not want to join the fun, that's just her.  I also modified my Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie, I whipped it with some oils I had and a little gel activator and it came out wonderful.

       My Big Girls Twist Out.
She thought she was too cute!

Me and Big Girl on our way to eat some barbecue

I had a job interview and this is how I wore my hair;
I think it turned out cute.

A "Littlre" Natural Cuteness

I finally got to Baby Girls hair, it was a wonderful feeling.  It took me about a whole days time to get those micro braids out of her hair, surprisingly she had a good amount of growth. I shampooed, deep conditioned and styled in two strand twists they should last through the week if up in a ponytail.
Here's what I did
Shampoo: Taliah Waajid Black Earth Shampoo (diluted)
Conditioner: Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
DC: Organics Hair Mayonnaise mixed with a little Vatika Oil
Leave In; Kimmay's Leave In Conditioner
Style: Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue (cause I have a little left that I'm really trying to use up)

That's momma's baby.
