My Stylish Knitted Neckwarmer

Just wanted to post a few pictures of the neckwarmer I knitted, isn't it cute. I love knitting but only things that do not take long, maybe two to three days are the max. I get bored with anything that takes longer. This is my most favorite, took me just two days to do. The flower is a clip on that I can clip to a matching hat, or wear on my hair. Check it out, man I am loving Picasa!

Yesterdays Hair

So this is yesterdays and the day before hair, and I think also two weeks ago in the purple shirt. Isn't it cute? Check out my little coils on the sides, gotta have those.

These are just a collage of the twist outs I have been wearing for the past few weeks and I am loving them. This style gives me so much more different types of ways to wear my hair: pinned up on one side, or both to sport a fro hawk, or pulled back and sporting a headband (my fav).
I keep this style going for a week by retwisting with a special hair mixture I made that keeps me hair super moisturized. I noticed that after I washed the other day and detangled I had little to no hair shedding, unbelievable! The pics in the green turtleneck are of washed hair so it is a little shorter but as the week goes by it gets bigger. This style is great for the cold winter days because I am not wetting my hair in the mornings, the bad thing is I can't put a hat on it. I'll figure out something.
And stay tuned for my Happy Birthday Hair video, the countdown is going on. December 27!!!!!

Happy Birthday to My Baby Girl

Happy Birthday to my Baby Girl Hannah, she turned four on this past Saturday and we partied all weekend with her. She had a great time at her birthday breakfast and then on to Chuck E. Cheeses, because she talked about that place for months. She is a hot mess but she is also the best. Happy Birthday Boonkins (yeah that is her nickname). We had a wonderful time at the movie The Princess and The Frog was great, even I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

I Got Big Hair

I love my hair today, it was big. I have been wearing a twist out for the past two weeks with a cowash in between, re-twisting every night except for last night when I said forget it and put on a satin cap and went to bed. The results this morning were great, I was expecting more flatness but was pleasantly surprised that I had only a little, I put some oil/shea butter on my hair and fluffed and was out the door. I loved my big hair today and got several good comments on it.

One funny thing: I knitted a scarf on my loom, thinking my hair was going too big, I made a big hat to fit over my expanding hair, when I put it on I was cracking up laughing. I guess I will take it a loose a make a smaller one. Anyways enjoy the pics below.

Revelation

I got a Revelation on this week. AAAAh (the sound of the angels singing). Anyways, I washed both my daughters hair on this weekend with Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner, then deep conditioned with my Hawaiian Silky Dry Hair conditioner and I must say their hair loves the Aussie ya'll. I washed, put in globs of Aussie conditioner and detangled, their hair has never been softer, I was in such aww. Their hair has never detangled during a wash, the Denman rolled right through. I have to say I was so used to using "Black People" shampoo and conditioners and not getting the results I wanted and I never thought to try anything else. This all came about after I did a product overhaul of the things under my sink (that post to come soon) and the only cleanser left was the Aussie and Aubrey Organics, I decided to give the purple bottles a whirl. Afterwards I did a few two strand twists on my seven year olds hair and rolled with rollers, she wore the cutest twist-out ponytails to school, my four year old unfortunately got her hair blow-dried and flat ironed this was best for me cause it will last for three weeks straight. To make a long story short Aussie will be number one choice for shampoo days with the girls. I looove it, sorry no pics to post though.

Happy Birthday to my daughter

Today is my oldest daughters birthday, on this day seven years ago she came into our lives and things have truly never been the same. She is an amazing girl: friendly, talented, smart, and not to mention gorgeous like her mother. Oh, and natural. I am proud of her.

Just A Quick Pic.

Here is a picture I took on Saturday, this is freshly washed hair about 100% dry. This style is done using the same technique in the TWA refreshing video. I love they way it is growing and getting thicker by the day. I only have one issue, my hair is growing quick but the sides are growing slower than the top and the back and I don't know what to do about that, any suggestions? I'm open.

Being Natural Rocks

So yesterday I started to detangle my hair and noticed that it was alittle difficult to do, mainly because I have been too lazy and I have not performed this task in about two weeks. Bad Natural! Well when the regular brushes I use were not working I just stopped altogether and finally decided that I might need a Denman brush. I kept putting off buying one because I refused to pay $10 for it, but I went on to Sally's anyways. The sales lady and I got to talking about hair after I asked they had a cheaper one and she said no :( after talking bout brushes I learned that she use to be a fellow curly and she wants to go back, on top of that she gave me a $2.00 discount on the brush. She rocks! I came home happy to perform the task at hand. I love the Denman, I wish I had bought it earlier... but then I would not have gotten the discount. LOL! I detangled and put in two strand twists for a twist out for church today. Below are a few pictures of my twist out, achieved using a spray bottle filled with water, conditioner (?), and oil. I don't know which conditioner was in it but my twists and twist-out turned out soft and great. And there are a few picutres of my girls, aren't they cute.

Sunday, November 22, 2009

The past few weeks since my last hair update have been wonderful, I have been in hair heaven with my new simple hair regimen. I am coming up to my one year anniversary of being natural and have finally figured out what my hair likes and doesn't like...yeah it took a year. So, I decided to keep it simple until the end of the year with no special hairstyles, ie my twists, but I am still using my shea butter, just can't live without it, I was on a protective style challenge with twists but the last time I took the twists out I just didn't have time to put them back in. So the rest of my challenge is consisting of this: co-washing every Saturday and a deep condition, throughout the week I apply shea butter/coconut oil to my hair every night and in the mornings I spray with warm water and apply some Hawaiian Silky Curl Activator. If you recall the last post was about the Activator that I am still using and loooove it! My hair is doing wonderful and stays moisturized and soft all day. I didn't shampoo my hair, I figured if I am only washing once a week I shouldn't need to shampoo but once a month, we'll see how that turns out. But on the other hand, if I am clarifying once a month do I really need a shampoo? What you think?

This past Thursday I also did a henna treatment, I decided to check out the India Mart here and see if they carried some "real" henna and they did, my product of choice was the Reshma brand just because a fellow blogger always uses and gives great reviews. I have to admit I loved it too, not to mention it was only $2.99, after mixing some EVOO with it I applied it and let set for almost two hours and rinsed it out it gave my hair a great shine and even brightened up my hair color some more.

Stay tuned for my next post, I will be cleaning out my bathroom cabinet and getting rid of the products I don't use, lets see what I find.

Good reading

I just finished reading Push by Sapphire aka "Precious", you know the movie coming out about the pregnant girl with HIV that Oprah and Tyler Perry are promoting. I love reading...usually I read a book in a few days but it took me almost two weeks to finish this book. If a movie is coming out that sparks my interest that was a book, I like to read it first and then see it because they are always different but I have to say I have never read a book so raw and open, I opened and closed this book at least three times amazed at what I was reading before I actually got into the book. In the end the book turned out to be alright once I got passed the language and what-nots, if this had been a true story though I would have been weeping while reading. It was real as real could get, knowing that people especially girls actually go through what Precious went through. Regardless I think this book was a good read, if you like reading and can get past some of the language and circumstances then you may like this book.

Hawaiian Silky

So Saturday was shampoo day and deep condition day and that is exactly what I did. But I bought two new products: Hawaiian Silky Gel Activator and Hawaiian Silky Dry Hair Conditioner. I must say that I loved the results of both, I use to use the conditioner when I was relaxed and decided to give it another try and I am glad I did, it worked great on my hair. Also the activator was plus, my hair usually gets crunchy when I use some products, that's 4a/b hair for ya, but this time it didn't, my hair is soft and I got great curl definition that you really can't tell from the video posted. For the next couple of weeks I decided to give my hair a rest from the twists and "let it do what it do", this activator is going to my number one product.

Wash-a-no no

Soooooo, I washed my hair with the twists in it and I have to say I will not be doing that again. I just spent the past two and a half days retwisting my hair. Yes I said retwisting. Don't get me wrong, my head surely felt better to get some water on it and I loved the new conditioner I bought, but after my hair dried it got a little frizzy. Not bad frizzy to my husband but to me it was not acceptable. I just finished the back of my hair and retwisted using my shea butter and coconut oil mixture now I feel much better. I am working on a video and hope to post by this weekend since I haven't posted a youtube video in a while.

Oh By the way the conditioner I bought is the Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner, I loved it, not to mention it smelled great, it is for dry and color treated hair so I thought I would use it to see how worked. It has olive, meadowfoam seed, and sweet almond oil in it.The consistency was nice and creamy but not so thick that it just sat on my hair, I bet it would work great as a leave in too. It still needs to pass the wash and go test to see if it makes the cut. So far I am up to three conditioners that Rock. Alright ya'll bedtime for me. Happy Nappy!

Cowashing and twisting

Hey all, alright so I made my two week mark with my twist and I feel like my hair really needs to be washed. It doesn't smell bad or anything but to me it looks like it needs to be washed so I am going to do a co-wash. Now, last months braids did not get a washing in between and by the time I washed it I could tell it hadn't been washed in a while so this time I decided to wash. I am going to use a new conditioner I picked up, I won't reveal it until the end of this experiment, then I am going to add some of my shea butter/oil mixture and use my perm rods to curl it while wet and let it air dry over night. I have been using the perm rods once a week to give me a little different style it's actually cute, of course my husband did not notice until I said something, just like a man. I will be posting pictures of the turn out tomorrow so stay tuned and wish me luck

Nothing New

Nothing new to brag about in my hair world, except my twists are finally back in after two weeks of letting it rest. I finally got tired and put in the twists, boy am I glad I a did. One week down and three more to go. I had good hair growth the past two months with twists put in place I won't measure again until another two months. One thing I want to try though is washing after the second week, my hair doesn't get itchy but I just want to clean it in between, I have never done this before so I am nervous. I figured I would just cowash, and just let the shower water run through my hair to rinse and then doing the same with a deep conditioner. Since my twist love to shrivel up when wet I will use clips to pin them down while they are drying, that will help them hold their length. Hope all goes well, I will post how that goes. Until then Happy Natural.

New Hair Color

I finally died my hair, I mean really dyed my hair. After months of debating I finally did it and the results are awesome I think. The color is Cherrywood by Clairol Texture and Tones. My husband definitely likes it, he has been wanting me to do red for a while, he keeps staring at me and grinning, I can only imagine what he is thinking. My daughters love it too. I did it early this morning before church, we took out daughters and niece to Disney On Ice this afternoon and I knew after that I was not going to want to do any hair afterwards, we had a good time. Anywho, here are some pics of my hair that I took to show off, the color is amazing especially in the sun. What do you think? I was scared to do a color because you have to keep it MOISTURIZED, but what I did was rubbed in a little Aussie Moist condish to my hair, then rubbed in a mixture of Darcy's Botanicals Pina Colada Leave In, alittle Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave in, and some olive oil. My hair has been really soft all day. I love the results. Oh, and one picture from Disney On Ice.

Pictures of hair growth results

I was going to wait to post this but I am just too excited. After several weeks of my protective hair challenge of two strand twists and my shea butter mixture, some results are in. I just took my twists out Friday and have been wearing a twist out, well tonight I washed it and decided to measure the hair growth and I am so happy and surprised. Check out the pictures of before and after. I forgot to take the picture before I did my hair, excuse the hair styling, just a little something to hold me for a few days, I will be putting twists back in on Sunday.

Hairstylin and profilin

Here are a few pics of my hair now. Friday I took my twists out and have been rocking a twist out for the past few days. It is definitely in need of a wash but every time I say I am going to wash it something else comes up: ballet classes on Monday, open house at school Tuesday and Wednesday I have Bible studies, can't skip out on that. I guess I will have to wait until Thursday. I am so ready to wash and clarify, I had great results with that.

I am also working on a video update, hopefully it will be ready by this weekend, which I will be busy again, my church is doing a 5k walk that I am part of. so as soon as it is ready I will post it, until then enjoy the pics. These pictures were taken on Friday afternoon, now that the style is older it has gotten even cuter, I will take pictures on tomorrow so you can see the difference. Check out the earrings, I love it!

Louisiana break

Naturallady is coming to you from Louisiana, enjoying time with family, cousins, aunts, uncles and parents. Family is nice, especially when everyone is getting along, I love it, we are having a good time. We spent some time eating and enjoying the outside weather, Louisiana has some sort of bugs called Lovebugs that keep flying around and they are getting on my nerves. I can't stand bugs; not an outdoorsy person.
One thing I was happy to see are my natural relatives: my aunt and cousin are totally natural, I am loving my aunts salt and pepper fro while my cousin has curls galore, of course they are loving my twists as well. I will try to gets pics of them to post just to show off if I can and if I remember. I am fighting the urge to wear a wash and go but my twists shall prevail. Hallejuah!

Oh, before I forget, for all you 4a-4b curly q's check this site out if you haven't already, I went through it the other day and though it was pretty cool.

Hair update

Here is a little update on my protective styling and recent hair regime.

Still a Naturallady

I am still here, I have been so busy with just stuff these past few days it is leaving me little time to do anything.

I do have one hair update, I washed my hair this past weekend and I blow dried and flat ironed it, OMG I forgot how soft my hair was it's been almost a year since it has been this straight. Don't worry it is only for this week I will be getting my twists put back in on this weekend just needed something done so I did not have to worry about it in the morning, my girls hair is also braided so I am free from combing hair.
So here are some pics of our hair, my hair gets rolled every night which I do not mind doing that. My husband is loving this hairstyle, he misses being able to run his fingers through it, I told him not to get his hopes up, I ain't going back. Anyways, this style has lasted me a week has to get washed out in the morning rain is coming.

Hair bows

So since I can't do anything with my hair, I needed something else to occupy my time so I decided to start making hairbows for my daughter. I love hairbows and since I always have to buy two sets of matching bows, because I love for them to match, I thought it would be cheaper to make them. I am just learning so I only made really easy ones to start, I found out the ones that look really hard are so darn easy and can't wait to make them. Here are pictures of some that I made for my girls and two neices.

Wash day. I made it another two weeks with a protective style, that makes it a whole month. This time though I need another style, summer is over and I don't have all day to twist my hair, I will be searching the web for some ideas.

On another note I just made some hair pudding using a recipe I found on Mixology101, I will be using it today to see how I like it. I also took about 1/2 a cup of the mixture and added two tbsp of Darcy's Botanicals Natural Coils Curling Jelly and whipped the two together cause I don't like it alone, it turned out great and man does it smell good. I will be trying it out too and will let you know how both of these turn out, I will be using the pudding on my daughters hair too and will post pics of her hair.

So far so good

Alrighty, officially back at work this week, all the little students are so excited as are the teachers. We have lots of enthusiasm by next week we will be looking forward to Labor Day for another break. Unfortunately the numbers are low so we may be loosing some teachers by Friday which is not a good thing. We are all hoping for the best.

On to hair: I am on week four of my protective style two strand twists, so far so good. It is so easy now that I am used to wearing the twists, I don't even have the urge to want to wash or experiment. Dag, it is easier than I thought. Well, this weekend is wash weekend, I think I will be wearing a twist out until Saturday it should last that long. My next question is what kind of protective style to do next? I love twist outs, they are so cute and I know I will not do a wash and go at all just not interested in them right now. Oooh, that is exciting to me, I thought I was going to have to wear a TWA forever. Anywho, I will post pictures to post this weekend, maybe I will get cute this weekend and head out with my sister.

On a house note (no pun intended): We went out today and looked at a neighborhood, we decided to get a house built, I find that more exciting, I look forward to picking out my own for my house instead of fixing up somebody else's. It is in another state, but only ten minutes from where we live now, all kind of in the same area. We just getting the paperwork started so we will find out where we stand in a few days. Definitely keep you updated.

Back on the payroll

No not a new job, but at the elementary school. It's kind of bittersweet, I am ready to move on but thank God for a job. Well I am thinking of taking a break for a while, only about a week :) I have been looking for a job everyday for eight weeks so I think I will take a break and wait to see what happens, I am just so eager to begin my new career. I have a fear of having a degree and not the job to go with it, cause it does happen. My husband keeps telling me that it is just a test that I have to pass and I know it is, but believe me I do thank God for my job and everything I do do at work I do it with a smile no matter how much I don't want to. Anywho, I am just glad to be back on the payroll cause my checking account is bone dry. Until then, later gators.
BTW, I am on week three of my protective twists styling, it's getting easier, I don't have the urge to want to take down my hair and experiment with it. Surely it will get more simpler as time goes on. Keep you updated,

Frustration...and not with my hair

I am so frustrated. I cannot find a job. School starts back on Monday, that means I go back to work, not happy. I have been searching for a job since school got out for the summer, 8 weeks to be exact, and nothing has come up. What's up with that? I like my job but I don't, I tutor children all day and other stuff and it's getting boring, the kids give me headaches, they are not as sweet as they look and this is elementary school ya'll. I am praying diligently that something comes up, always remembering that God said he would give me the desires of my heart, I worked very hard through school and graduated with honors, my desire is for a better job. I know it is coming, no worries, until then I will work as if unto God until he blesses me with another job. I was just on a hospital site and they had an opening in my field but it was nights, I mean the perfect job but the wrong hours. I definitely can't take a night job because that will be taking away from my children and after two years of school I can't be away from them or my husband, what's a girl to do.
Anyways, sorry about the rambling, just feeling frustrated and sad. On the plus side I get to have all my holidays for a while longer.

Part mohawk, part twist out

I ran across these pictures I forgot I took the other day. I took down my twists on Wednesday morning and wore a twist out, I thought they would flatten when I slept on them but they didn't. The next day my twist out still looked fresh so I took some pictures.

Ponytail

Here is a pic of my natural ponytail I wore today. How did I do it?
*Washed hair
*Applied shea butter mixture for moisturizing then applied Infusium 23 Leave In
*Blowdried ( yes blow dried, it's not for everybody) on low heat then applied more shea butter
* Gelled with a little eco styler gel and tied down with a scarf. To hold my ponytail I used my knee hi thingy and added a flower for decoration.

This style does have a purpose, I am going to retwist my hair on tomorrow, I think having my hair blow dried makes easier twisting for me. Next time you see a pic of me I will have a new style. Until later gators.
Voila!

A hair dyeing experience

What happens when you have too much time on your hands? You dye your hair, that's what I did, well sorta. I say that because I did not get the turn out that I wanted, I wanted a big, noticeable color and what I got was the front sides coming out redder than the rest of my hair, which is somewhat subtle. I did a semi permanent red (scarlet red by Adore, no alcohol, ammonia, or peroxide) because of the darkness of my hair hoping that it would hold good but it really didn't. I even used two bottles the first I left on for 25 minutes and rinsed out, I wasn't satisfied so I applied the other bottle and left it on for 25 more minutes, that did help to lighten my hair some.

What I decided was I would wait a month and then dye it again with the same color in hopes of getting a more reddish color and if that works then I will use every few months. I really want red hair, when I told my husband I wanted to dye my hair he even suggested red, say what, he surely shocked me.

I was working on video but we are under a tornado warning right about now, having some very bad weather, so I will wait until tomorrow and finish it up then post it. Hopefully I can get outside tomorrow and see how the color looks if we have some sun. Until then, later gators.

My mommy's hair

Here are the pictures of my moms finished hair, she likes it. I did it Saturday and it took only two hours, and she is still wearing it which is a plus because she does not keep a style long, she is loving it. I even told her how to make a spritz for her hair which is working out well.

Good hair day

Three things today:
First: Today was definitely a good hair day, I went to a career fair and wore my hair in the cutest twistout. My husband just saw my hair and was like wow, that looks great. I have to admit it was cute, it was very soft and well moisturized thanks to my shea butter and oils. Check out the pics.

Second: I got a great compliment on my twist out, a fellow church goer saw me in the store and loved my hair, she asked how I did it and what I used . She said she had all the products at home and that she was going home to try it on her grand-daughters hair. I told her next time I saw her in church let me know how it turns out. She seemed so excited, hope it turns out good.

Third: I almost fell ya'll, no not literally. I went by Whole Foods today just to buy some peppermint oil, and OMG what did I see but Curls hair care products, yes the original, starring back at me. I got so excited because I have been wanting to try it. I picked it up and walked around with it for a while. After I floated back to reality I slowly set the jar back on the shelf and walked away. I am so proud of myself, I am going to stick to this regimen if it nothing else, plus I kept looking at that price ($16.99). In the end I left without it but I did ask if it was just a trial or are they planning on keeping it, they will be keeping it so I will try it another time.
