Hubby's Loc Journey

Saturday, May 30, 2011

My husband has been growing out his hair for the past several months and finally got his Locs started...by me.  It was either get a hair cut or start the process. The first idea was to go to my sisters Loctician and get them started, $125, I just couldn't justify paying that much but she is good and does scalp treatments out of this world which is what he needs for his dandruff.  The second choice was me do his hair...and my hair...and my two daughters hair, too much hair doin.  In the end I did it and it took almost 7 hours to do due to the tedious parting and twisting and clipping of the hair, it looked pretty good.

This is half way done and looking
pretty good. Hubby has lots of grey :)

The good thing about me starting his hair is that if he changes his mind in a few months and cuts it off the money is not wasted, of course he says he is going to keep it.
To get the Locs started he washed his hair and used the shampoo brush to get his scalp good and clean from any dandruff or buildup, then conditioned, for the twist I used Taliah Waajhid Lock It Up Gel  for resistant hair, that means for grey hair cause it is stubborn.  After twisting I used the short metal clamps to hold down the roots and let dry, took them out and....

  finished hair...

This lasted a whole week and just got redone on this morning when I re-twisted.  The one bad thing is he has type 3? in the back of his head and it does not want to hold so I had to re-twist that section during the week, I tried adding a little Eco gel with the Lock it up for that part to see how it holds.  We'll see.  Be back later for more updates and length check.  Length Check + Hubby = Weird!!!

Wash and Go Fix

Part 2 of my wash and go journey: Monday morning I conditioned with Tresemme Naturals and shook my hair vigorously then applied KC leave in with a little oil and Bed Head Control Freak, yes I use that for my "gel" if you will. My results were much better.

Wash and Go

I decided I wanted to do a wash and go for the last week of school and the rest of the summer while I am off. Saturday I washed my hair and tried a wash and go using Eco styler gel to see what kind of effect I  would get- well I washed, conditioned, and got to styling. I used Kinky Curly leave in conditioner under the gel, hey if it works for "The Custard", I applied it on super wet hair a section at a time and let it dry, the results were pretty good. The second day was alright cause I just spritzed with water but Monday morning I re-wet for work and looked in the mirror and my hair was white. OMG, I had to get in the shower and run conditioner through, afterwards I used the KC leave in and my Bed Head Control Freak as a leave in to hold my curls since it is quick drying, I had super shrinkage but great results.
Here are the Eco results, the first pic is after application the second is by the end if the night, a frizz dry mess.

Another pony

So after wearing my twists for two weeks my hair was silently yelling to come down, so I took them down only to do a quick twist out for Friday. Today is such a busy day though that it won't get washed until Sunday, after being stretched my hair made it into a ponytail where it will stay until tomorrow.

Yarn wrapped wreath

I have officially finished my wreath and hung it on my front door. I think this is beautiful. Now off to make one for my sister.
I also took some time to make a  hairbow holder for my girls. Stay tuned for a special holder sure to be loved by all.

Sew Not About Hair 2

Yeah, this post is not about hair, well maybe a little, but not really.  Right now my hair is up in twists for a week now, I am only keeping them in for one more week cause I found that anything longer than two weeks without washing leaves my hair feeling not so good.
Look, I can make a ponytail!!!

So now on to what has kept me busy, I love crafting and making things so I decided to make some yarn wrapped wreaths and right on time for Teacher Appreciation.

This first one was made for my Big Girls teacher, the T is for Tate, she loved it.  I think it turned out really cute.  She can hang it by her door or somewhere in her room.
I made the flowers out of leftover denim material and bought some magnets and attached a few to the wreath.

This second wreath I made for my own house to hang on the front door, adorable.  To finish it off I am going to buy a letter R (for my last name) and hang from the middle then hang it from my front door.  Too Cute!!  This was made with a circular foam wreath and I even make the flowers myself.

The flowers are pink, cocoa brown, and creanm felt.  I so enjoyed making these.  I will definitely be making more in the near future of course in different styles.
