weekend hair plans

Last weekend I washed my hair but did not "baby" it if you will, mainly because I just didn't have the time.  So this weekend my hair is in need of some true pampering.

 Today's hair tasks consist of:
1.shampoo with Shea Organics Moisture Retention shampoo
2. condition with Suave Almond and Shea Butter conditioner and finger detangle ( no pulling of the hair today)
3. Henna and Amla mix treatment cause it is in need of one (I may post a video of that if I have time)
4. deep condition with Cholesterol Tea Tree Oil DC
5. Set some twists for a twist out using ???, not sure yet.  Off to find something now.

Have a great weekend, I know I will.

End of the week hair

It's the end of the week and my twist outs were great all week, still using Shea Moisture Conditioning Milk and coconut shea butter.  Needless to say it is about to be over...on Sunday.  No hair washing today giving myself a break, last Saturday I washed my hair and my daughters hair and gave them a protective style that will hopefully last another two weeks before all the rubberbands pop.  I wish my Baby Girl would sleep with a scarf but it irritates hair her nape something awful so her hair usually doesn't last as long.
Also I won't be doing my Amla/black tea treatment that I am loving, it will just get a regular cowash on Sunday and twisted back up. I really can't stress how much I can tell the difference in my hair, no hair fall at all, hmmm, there is something going on here!!  Next weekend I will definitely be doing a henna and amla mix I promise.  Until then check out a few pictures of our hair.

Both girls hair is in the same style

A "Littlre" Natural Cuteness

I finally got to Baby Girls hair, it was a wonderful feeling.  It took me about a whole days time to get those micro braids out of her hair, surprisingly she had a good amount of growth. I shampooed, deep conditioned and styled in two strand twists they should last through the week if up in a ponytail.
Here's what I did
Shampoo: Taliah Waajid Black Earth Shampoo (diluted)
Conditioner: Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
DC: Organics Hair Mayonnaise mixed with a little Vatika Oil
Leave In; Kimmay's Leave In Conditioner
Style: Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue (cause I have a little left that I'm really trying to use up)

That's momma's baby.

Natural Gone 80's

So today at school we had a dress up day, and I dressed up in 80's attire.  Each hallway picked a decade, i.e 60's, 70's, 80's etc...My hair was the bomb with a half mohawk going on.  Of  course I thought I was cute, after four days of wearing a twist out my hair was really big ( it stretches out because I retwist every night) and it got many compliments.  Here is a picture of me rockin my legwarmers in front on my coworkers door that she decorated dedicated to Prince. Purple Rain, Purple Rain. Sorry I just love Prince. One of the students even asked if I was Prince.  LOL!!

On another happy note I have my first job interview since I graduated almost twelve months ago.  Wooo Hoo, I am so excited I don't know what to do.  God is just doing some things and I am just going to roll with Him.  I got two job replies in one week.  I was wondering how to wear my hair, I promise I hate to wash my hair and then have to go through the process of twisting my hair again because these days I do not wear wash and goes, just too darn cold.  On the other hand, I surely can't walk in there with some twists in my hair regardless how pinned up they are.  I am scared the wash and go may have to work but before I wash it I will experiment with my big hair, but if push comes to shoove I will  be seeing curls cause I need a J-O-B! What a dilema.  I will post pictures of what ever I decide

I Got Big Hair

I love my hair today, it was big. I have been wearing a twist out for the past two weeks with a cowash in between, re-twisting every night except for last night when I said forget it and put on a satin cap and went to bed. The results this morning were great, I was expecting more flatness but was pleasantly surprised that I had only a little, I put some oil/shea butter on my hair and fluffed and was out the door. I loved my big hair today and got several good comments on it.

One funny thing: I knitted a scarf on my loom, thinking my hair was going too big, I made a big hat to fit over my expanding hair, when I put it on I was cracking up laughing. I guess I will take it a loose a make a smaller one. Anyways enjoy the pics below.

Revelation

I got a Revelation on this week. AAAAh (the sound of the angels singing). Anyways, I washed both my daughters hair on this weekend with Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner, then deep conditioned with my Hawaiian Silky Dry Hair conditioner and I must say their hair loves the Aussie ya'll. I washed, put in globs of Aussie conditioner and detangled, their hair has never been softer, I was in such aww. Their hair has never detangled during a wash, the Denman rolled right through. I have to say I was so used to using "Black People" shampoo and conditioners and not getting the results I wanted and I never thought to try anything else. This all came about after I did a product overhaul of the things under my sink (that post to come soon) and the only cleanser left was the Aussie and Aubrey Organics, I decided to give the purple bottles a whirl. Afterwards I did a few two strand twists on my seven year olds hair and rolled with rollers, she wore the cutest twist-out ponytails to school, my four year old unfortunately got her hair blow-dried and flat ironed this was best for me cause it will last for three weeks straight. To make a long story short Aussie will be number one choice for shampoo days with the girls. I looove it, sorry no pics to post though.

Being Natural Rocks

So yesterday I started to detangle my hair and noticed that it was alittle difficult to do, mainly because I have been too lazy and I have not performed this task in about two weeks. Bad Natural! Well when the regular brushes I use were not working I just stopped altogether and finally decided that I might need a Denman brush. I kept putting off buying one because I refused to pay $10 for it, but I went on to Sally's anyways. The sales lady and I got to talking about hair after I asked they had a cheaper one and she said no :( after talking bout brushes I learned that she use to be a fellow curly and she wants to go back, on top of that she gave me a $2.00 discount on the brush. She rocks! I came home happy to perform the task at hand. I love the Denman, I wish I had bought it earlier... but then I would not have gotten the discount. LOL! I detangled and put in two strand twists for a twist out for church today. Below are a few pictures of my twist out, achieved using a spray bottle filled with water, conditioner (?), and oil. I don't know which conditioner was in it but my twists and twist-out turned out soft and great. And there are a few picutres of my girls, aren't they cute.

The past few weeks since my last hair update have been wonderful, I have been in hair heaven with my new simple hair regimen. I am coming up to my one year anniversary of being natural and have finally figured out what my hair likes and doesn't like...yeah it took a year. So, I decided to keep it simple until the end of the year with no special hairstyles, ie my twists, but I am still using my shea butter, just can't live without it, I was on a protective style challenge with twists but the last time I took the twists out I just didn't have time to put them back in. So the rest of my challenge is consisting of this: co-washing every Saturday and a deep condition, throughout the week I apply shea butter/coconut oil to my hair every night and in the mornings I spray with warm water and apply some Hawaiian Silky Curl Activator. If you recall the last post was about the Activator that I am still using and loooove it! My hair is doing wonderful and stays moisturized and soft all day. I didn't shampoo my hair, I figured if I am only washing once a week I shouldn't need to shampoo but once a month, we'll see how that turns out. But on the other hand, if I am clarifying once a month do I really need a shampoo? What you think?

This past Thursday I also did a henna treatment, I decided to check out the India Mart here and see if they carried some "real" henna and they did, my product of choice was the Reshma brand just because a fellow blogger always uses and gives great reviews. I have to admit I loved it too, not to mention it was only $2.99, after mixing some EVOO with it I applied it and let set for almost two hours and rinsed it out it gave my hair a great shine and even brightened up my hair color some more.

Stay tuned for my next post, I will be cleaning out my bathroom cabinet and getting rid of the products I don't use, lets see what I find.

Wash-a-no no

Soooooo, I washed my hair with the twists in it and I have to say I will not be doing that again. I just spent the past two and a half days retwisting my hair. Yes I said retwisting. Don't get me wrong, my head surely felt better to get some water on it and I loved the new conditioner I bought, but after my hair dried it got a little frizzy. Not bad frizzy to my husband but to me it was not acceptable. I just finished the back of my hair and retwisted using my shea butter and coconut oil mixture now I feel much better. I am working on a video and hope to post by this weekend since I haven't posted a youtube video in a while.

Oh By the way the conditioner I bought is the Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner, I loved it, not to mention it smelled great, it is for dry and color treated hair so I thought I would use it to see how worked. It has olive, meadowfoam seed, and sweet almond oil in it.The consistency was nice and creamy but not so thick that it just sat on my hair, I bet it would work great as a leave in too. It still needs to pass the wash and go test to see if it makes the cut. So far I am up to three conditioners that Rock. Alright ya'll bedtime for me. Happy Nappy!

Cowashing and twisting

Hey all, alright so I made my two week mark with my twist and I feel like my hair really needs to be washed. It doesn't smell bad or anything but to me it looks like it needs to be washed so I am going to do a co-wash. Now, last months braids did not get a washing in between and by the time I washed it I could tell it hadn't been washed in a while so this time I decided to wash. I am going to use a new conditioner I picked up, I won't reveal it until the end of this experiment, then I am going to add some of my shea butter/oil mixture and use my perm rods to curl it while wet and let it air dry over night. I have been using the perm rods once a week to give me a little different style it's actually cute, of course my husband did not notice until I said something, just like a man. I will be posting pictures of the turn out tomorrow so stay tuned and wish me luck

New Hair Color

I finally died my hair, I mean really dyed my hair. After months of debating I finally did it and the results are awesome I think. The color is Cherrywood by Clairol Texture and Tones. My husband definitely likes it, he has been wanting me to do red for a while, he keeps staring at me and grinning, I can only imagine what he is thinking. My daughters love it too. I did it early this morning before church, we took out daughters and niece to Disney On Ice this afternoon and I knew after that I was not going to want to do any hair afterwards, we had a good time. Anywho, here are some pics of my hair that I took to show off, the color is amazing especially in the sun. What do you think? I was scared to do a color because you have to keep it MOISTURIZED, but what I did was rubbed in a little Aussie Moist condish to my hair, then rubbed in a mixture of Darcy's Botanicals Pina Colada Leave In, alittle Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave in, and some olive oil. My hair has been really soft all day. I love the results. Oh, and one picture from Disney On Ice.

Still a Naturallady

I am still here, I have been so busy with just stuff these past few days it is leaving me little time to do anything.

I do have one hair update, I washed my hair this past weekend and I blow dried and flat ironed it, OMG I forgot how soft my hair was it's been almost a year since it has been this straight. Don't worry it is only for this week I will be getting my twists put back in on this weekend just needed something done so I did not have to worry about it in the morning, my girls hair is also braided so I am free from combing hair.
So here are some pics of our hair, my hair gets rolled every night which I do not mind doing that. My husband is loving this hairstyle, he misses being able to run his fingers through it, I told him not to get his hopes up, I ain't going back. Anyways, this style has lasted me a week has to get washed out in the morning rain is coming.

Wash day. I made it another two weeks with a protective style, that makes it a whole month. This time though I need another style, summer is over and I don't have all day to twist my hair, I will be searching the web for some ideas.

On another note I just made some hair pudding using a recipe I found on Mixology101, I will be using it today to see how I like it. I also took about 1/2 a cup of the mixture and added two tbsp of Darcy's Botanicals Natural Coils Curling Jelly and whipped the two together cause I don't like it alone, it turned out great and man does it smell good. I will be trying it out too and will let you know how both of these turn out, I will be using the pudding on my daughters hair too and will post pics of her hair.

So far so good

Alrighty, officially back at work this week, all the little students are so excited as are the teachers. We have lots of enthusiasm by next week we will be looking forward to Labor Day for another break. Unfortunately the numbers are low so we may be loosing some teachers by Friday which is not a good thing. We are all hoping for the best.

On to hair: I am on week four of my protective style two strand twists, so far so good. It is so easy now that I am used to wearing the twists, I don't even have the urge to want to wash or experiment. Dag, it is easier than I thought. Well, this weekend is wash weekend, I think I will be wearing a twist out until Saturday it should last that long. My next question is what kind of protective style to do next? I love twist outs, they are so cute and I know I will not do a wash and go at all just not interested in them right now. Oooh, that is exciting to me, I thought I was going to have to wear a TWA forever. Anywho, I will post pictures to post this weekend, maybe I will get cute this weekend and head out with my sister.

On a house note (no pun intended): We went out today and looked at a neighborhood, we decided to get a house built, I find that more exciting, I look forward to picking out my own for my house instead of fixing up somebody else's. It is in another state, but only ten minutes from where we live now, all kind of in the same area. We just getting the paperwork started so we will find out where we stand in a few days. Definitely keep you updated.

A hair dyeing experience

What happens when you have too much time on your hands? You dye your hair, that's what I did, well sorta. I say that because I did not get the turn out that I wanted, I wanted a big, noticeable color and what I got was the front sides coming out redder than the rest of my hair, which is somewhat subtle. I did a semi permanent red (scarlet red by Adore, no alcohol, ammonia, or peroxide) because of the darkness of my hair hoping that it would hold good but it really didn't. I even used two bottles the first I left on for 25 minutes and rinsed out, I wasn't satisfied so I applied the other bottle and left it on for 25 more minutes, that did help to lighten my hair some.

What I decided was I would wait a month and then dye it again with the same color in hopes of getting a more reddish color and if that works then I will use every few months. I really want red hair, when I told my husband I wanted to dye my hair he even suggested red, say what, he surely shocked me.

I was working on video but we are under a tornado warning right about now, having some very bad weather, so I will wait until tomorrow and finish it up then post it. Hopefully I can get outside tomorrow and see how the color looks if we have some sun. Until then, later gators.
