Carol's Daughter

K lady's, Monday I bought some Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey, yes your frugal natural sister spent the money cause I am seriously looking for something for shine plus this is one of two of her items that actually smell good. I can't bring myself to buy anything else because they do not smell good to me even my daughter was like Mommy that stinks. My next product will be the Black Vanilla Intense conditioner. Anyway, I went to my local Sephora store and picked up the nice smelling, bling colored moisturizer. I used it on my three year olds hair, her curls suck up shine too, very dry LOOKING. Not going to give a review yet, tomorrow I will be doing a twist out using my Wet set pudding my Curls by Sister Smith, yes I have it but hadn't tried it yet either. I figured I would do a two strand twist with it cause I really don't want to wear a wash and go, those days are over for right now. I will do a review on tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Hair update

Hey all I am still here, just kinda busy. I just got finished with my hair, another protective hairstyle, this time I did my finger coils (curly doodles) again. I have been at a stand still with my hair even thought about relaxing it. Yes that dreaded thought came to mind......uh, yeah, I would never do it though. It is just so thick but yet my hair strands are very fine, and it is still very overwhelming. I figure if I can leave it in a protective style for at least two weeks then redo it I will be alright, that is if I can make it two weeks. I thought about getting braids but I don't want to deal with all the breakage that comes with that. (Sigh) I think it is just my length that I am at now and because of the heat my hair is drying out, it is making me frustrated. Right now if my hair is stretched out it is almost five inches, major growth compared to my big chop, it just feels like it is growing really slow, I have been taking my Biotin pills but thinking of changing to something else. I surely don't want prenatal vitamins, I don't want to take anything related to pregnancy. LOL! But if push comes to shove... One problem I have been working on are my sides thinning out, well my right side, like I said before I am a right side sleeper so that side, not edges, is getting thin. Never this thin when relaxed. I have been training myself to sleep on the left and I am doing pretty good. If anyone knows of a good treatment to use please let me know. Anywho... Let me get my Saturday started. Until later chics.

I'm Irked (or how ever you spell it)

I'm irked. How come these hair supply stores do not sell all these curly, kinky hair products that are supposed to be so great in their stores. A new BSS opened up here called Trendsetters Beauty Supply, so I stopped by to see what they had hoping there was something I could buy. Not. Why was I so surprised, just a catchy name for a store I guess. They had the same old stuff like everybody else, I could have screamed. I know us naturals are the minority but goodness.

I did talk to the owner though she was really nice and gave me some free samples ( I like anything free). She showed me some stuff that I already have and don't really like, I politely told her no thanks. She also told me that another natural came in looking for some hair products that she did not carry, that should be a sign. The lady was very nice and said that maybe she needed to look into some curly hair products, thumbs up!

In the mean time I will try the free shampoo and conditioner that she gave me. I don't mind buying a product but just don't want to order it online, hopefully if I keep looking I will find someplace. I don't mind buying it if I know you will keep it on stock. Or just special order for me.

Another protective style

So I know I said I did not care for protective styles, but here is another style. I did these on Tuesday night, to twist I used a homemade moisturizing buttercreme that I concocted myself. OMG! that stuff turned out so great, smooth and soft, and it does not leave residue. Not to mention my hair has been nice and moisturized since using. I made it for my daughters' hair, but they have been at grandma's house so I just tried it for myself, can't wait to use it them.

Recipe: (something like this, but you can mix accordingly)
2 oz shea butter
1 oz Palmer Coconut hair lotion
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp coconut oil
about 1 oz vegetable glycerin

You Too Can Be Natural

Yes, you too can be natural. I love my hair and I know you do too, so why don't you just go ahead and cut off your hair. You know what surprise me is that most, or maybe all of the comments come from women with relaxered hair, long or short. What's up with that?

You know what, I love getting compliments, but I hate when that one phrase comes out of their mouth "I just can't cut my hair off." I use to say the same thing, and then I did it. Of course I couldn't make eye contact with myself in the mirror for a few days because of the shock that all my shoulder length hair was gone, but after about a week and finding the right makeup to go with this new style I was fine.

I bring this issue up because my best girlfriend loves my hair and the different styles I do, not to mention my sister who has locs. She always says she wants to cut her hair off but is scared. I understand where she is coming from, but she just doesn't know how liberating it is. My friend loves hair weaves and braids and her hair could be healthier. I know she wants to cut her hair off, she would look so cute with a TWA, but of course I don't want to make her do anything. I finally cut my hair after 5 months of transitioning because I was just tired of working with two textures and I thought why hold on to the length, isn't going natural what you wanted.

Curly, coily, nappy, kinky, what ever you want it to be is great and I am so glad I did it. I see nothing in my future that even looks like a relaxer, as a matter of fact July 9 will be my one year anniversary of my last relaxer. I know, I can't believe it either. Oh the excitement of things to come.

Conditioner Only

I have been trying to upload a video I made but for some reason it will not take, so I had to upload each video seperately. I love the result of the conditoner only, I've had my hair in this style since Thursday and surprisingly I like it, but we will see how long it lasts, don't want my hair to start locking. I don't know how I ended up with all those funny faces.

Two strand twist out

So I put colored Henna in my hair this past Sunday, the color: Chestnut (Medium Brown). I love it. At first I thought it didn't take, I left it on for two hours when I rinsed out it still looked dark, but the next morning I wet my hair and applied my hair products and Wow, I could see the difference. It's very subtle just like I wanted it to be. I definitely like it better than the almost black looking that it was before, next time I will let it set a little while longer.
Last night I also came across a site called tightlycurly.com, great site, her rules and techniques had my hair doing things I didn't think it could do. I tried her "Curly Primer" on some of my hair and loved it. What it is is conditioner only, yes left in your hair and styling either twirling ( the method I tried) or combing through your hair with your fingers. For super coily hair like mine the twirling is best. You apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair and style, she had a list of conditioners that she recommended and whatdoya know she listed my Organix Shea Butter conditioner so of course I whipped mine out and went for it, I did the back part of my head just to see what it would do, taking small parts of hair, I just twirled the hair around my fingers all the way to the ends. I was loving the effects. So sad I had to wash it out cause I did not have time to let it dry before bed, so instead I applied shea butter to my damp hair and did two strand twists and a twist out this morning and I might I add it was quite cute. Man you can really tell my hair has grown when it is twisted. Don't worry though I am going to do the twirlies tomorrow and I will post pics of the outcome , until then here are pics of MY Funky Fro.
