It's been a long time baby...

Lawd it's been a long, long time but I think I am finally back on the radar.  I have just not been feeling like chit chatting on the computer, posting pics, or just doing anything, my poor blog has suffered and so has my Youtube channel, bless their hearts.  Lately I have been doing a lot of crafting and sewing and what not and decided to give this thing they call "blogging" another chance.  I see the last post was in February, I seriously thought I had posted something newer than that but I guess not, I am going to give it one more shot and if it does not go well this time then so be it.
So what have I been up to?
Lots of stuff, way too much to post in this one blog so I will give you a little of what is going on with my hair, crafting, and family for the right now and as the days go by I will post more updates.
My hair is in stretched loose two strand twists that I saw Alicia James do a tutorial on on her Youtube channel, if you want to see it check it out.  My hair has been twisted for two weeks and is actually coming down on this Sunday cause my scalp is getting itchy and my hair really just needs to be washed.  I really love these twists and can't wait to do them again

Today I wore a head scarf for the first time and now I think I am in love with them, I was feeling really cute in it too, I got this scarf from a thrift store.

I pulled my twists into a low pony and wrapped the ends of the scarf around it creating the bun, you can find some really good scarf tieing tutorials on Youtube.

So on to crafting: my two recent projects finished this week.

Project #1

This is a quilt I made for a coworker, she gave me  6 boxes of tshirts that she has had for who knows how long and I made her a quilt. It actually turned great but I won't be making another for a while.

Project #2, I took these bootcut jeans and turned them into skinny pink jeans, so me! Luv them and the color pink!

I got this project from Pinterest, that sight rocks, surely got more to come.

Lastly just a few pictures from my family reunion in Slidell, Louisian, for those of you who don't know where that is, it is about 30 minutes from New Orleans right over the bridge. We had a wonderful time celebrating the Rockett family, whoop, whoop!

Cafe Du Monde got the bomb beignets...I think that was my husbands
highlight of the whole trip.
Lake Pontchartrain

So these are some of the right now things I got going on.  Stay tuned to more..... hugs and kisses.

Hair Goodies and last Saturday hair

So today was one of my ho hum hair days, like the one I had ehen I almost got a texturizer, yeah we won't talk about that. It was hair styling time and I just wadn't feeling it so I decided to make me some hair pins to try and get out the funk.
These are so easy and fun to make, once I got started I couldn't quit, I love hair candy and can't wait to wear one tomorrow.
Any straight pins will work, I had a broken EZ-comb so I even added beads to the two combs.
Also....forgot to post last Saturday and Sunday hair so I threw a pic in of that too.
Check out below.

Thursday hair

Here is Thursday hair, I must say that I had a great time styling my hair on last week, it was a break from the usual twists that I keep in my pinup style. It only started because I was not all the way happy with the twists I had put in so I just decided to wear my hair out, it definitely is great to be able to style my hair now and not always wear twist outs. Check out pics.
Hair is just rolled and tucked to the back and with a side ponytail, hair is then just pinned under to protect the ends.

Pictures of Wednesday hair...I braided already stretched hair into medium plaits over night, in the a.m I unbraided each and just did big flat twists across the top towards the back and did a high pony. The hair is just tucked under and pinned down and viola!

Monday Hair

So my hair regimen is going great, loving the results I am getting from my hair. Sunday I washed using Keracare cream shampoo which is wonderful, I deep conditioned using Mizani Curl Relenish, then used Cantu Shea Butter leave in with a little olive oil and finally blow dried, my hair has been great and feels great. Afterwards to style I twisted with Darcey's Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream with a little leave in on the ends. My first intention was to wear it pinned up in the twists but the next morning I decidef to do an out style just cause I haven't worn it ou in a while. Results.turned out great. Check out pics below.

Accidents Do Happen

What a busy week....glad to be back at work but good lawd I am tired.  On top of that I had a minor accident this past Tuesday...as yes I was wearing some cute open toe sandals.
I broke my toe, the baby toe, and it hurt like heck, so now I have to wear this big, heavy boot until I see the orthopedist or anybody who will see me at this point.  Well I was at work rushing through the door as usual and turned around super quick and my toe made contact with my daughters foot which was in one of those thick converse shoes and bam, I knew it was broke but was just hoping it was a sprain.  Well there goes getting back to Zumba.  Maybe I can get some ab work in since it does not involve the feet.
This is my first time wearing the boot and I surely can't understand how people wear these long term.

Okay on to hair.  I finally decided to do an Aphogee protein treatment this coming Saturday, I feel like  my hair is really in need of it.  I have always been afraid of that but after doing lots of research and the great results from their shampoo and conditioner I think I will give it a try and of course I will let you know that turns out.
My Big Girl is still rocking the twists I put in two weeks ago, one more week and then I will take them down to rewash and give another protective style, she wants her mohawk back so that is what she will get, I am thinking I will do them some what small so it will last another three weeks, that's about as long as I will let her hair stay up between washes anything longer than that leaves her hair really dry.

And now my side hustle: jewelry.  Here are a few pics of some things I have made recently.

I made these feather earrings for some of
my younger sisters friends at school.

I made this matching yoyo earrings
and necklace set for my coworker, she loved it
and we got plenty of compliments.

Until the weekend, enjoy.

Preparing hair for twists

Wow, I am missing my blog. My computer is down for a while but will be back up shortly so there are no big time product reviews that I need to do. But for now enjoy the pics of blown out hair cause I am preparing my hair for twists cause school and work officially start back Monday. What happened to three month vacations?
Anyways,  yesterday I blowdried my hair using the tension method and my concentrator nozzle, then went through with the  denman, my hair had been washed a week ago and the only products in my hair were my moisturizer and my shea butter pomade so there was no need to rewash. I did use my Elasta QP heat protectant and the results were awesome, super soft hair, I was so tempted to flat iron but I resisted. I did braid my hair back upafterwards,  but it has get twisted by tonight though cause I've got to be at work tomorrow. Check out the pics. Also since my laptop is down I decided to pick back up on my knitting, check out my hat.

Hair of the day

Ya'll I have been sooo busy with so many other crafts going on that I have not had time to do any real posts and I have so much to talk about, it's just a rambling mush in my brain. I have been so busy making jewelry that time has just gone by. Later Tomorrow I will post pictures and tell why so much jewelry, I also need to do my official review of As I Am hair products :).

For today enjoy my hair of the day, for the styling I have been using the new product I purchase at the Tennessee Hair Care Expo, Anago Samina Tahitian Coconut moisturizer, that was a God send for my hair, it has been so soft and moisturized all week, I will surely purchase again when I run out.  Oh, and did I tell you it was only $6 bucks.  Bam!

Stay tuned for tomorrow...

Hair Business

I have been doing hair for the past 6 days, starting with my sisters hair on Wednesday and Friday taking down her locs finally finishing on Saturday.  After calculating it all up it took about 15 hours total to comb all the locs out, not bad, we cut half the locs and then got started.  Here hair is very thick and unfortunately she does not want to deal with it so in two weeks she is getting a texturizer.  Sad Face, I know.  But you have to understand my sister: she is very tenderheaded, she works nights and sleeps all day, not to mention is expecting her third child, and she hates doing too much to her hair with a passion. I tried to talk her out of it but her mind is made up, I'm not mad at her though, what ever is going to make her happy.
One last loc waiting to come undone

She is free...
Unfortunately we were so excited that it was all over we did not take an after shampoo and style shot, but trust me it was so dang cute on her. Oh and we shampooed with Shea Moisture Moisture Rentention, she likes it so she bought her some too.

Ok, so Thursday, I braided two little girls hair, not my girls, I have regular "clients" whose hair I braid, I don't like dealing with grown folks.
Sunday I washed and retwisted my husbands hair cause it was looking a hot mess.  To shampoo I used my African black soap shampoo that I make with peppermint, talk about refreshing, I then twisted with Jamaican Mango and Lime Wax Creme, the Tahliah Wahjid was not giving a good hold. He was looking fantastic!

It's definitely growing...

So what did I do today, I braided one more "clients" hair and then got to working in mine.
First I took a dip in the pool, I love swimming.  Today I calrified using VO5 Tea Therapy Clarifying shampoo, that stuff is no joke even after being diluted with water it left my hair clllleeeaaannn, but after conditioning with my Tresemme and doing a deep conditioning treatment my hair was fine. I haven't clarified in a while and I could definitely tell it was time.  Style of choice was a wash and go using Kinky Curly Custard, sorry ya'll I really like that stuff, I put it in my hair and was out the door.  This summer equals simple and this for me is simple....One thing I did different was I worked with bigger sections instead of small ones then I twisted after applying the custard and let the twists sit in for a while and untwisted, this definitely made my results much better, where there's a will there's a way...

Hair and Then Some

Happy Wednesday night...
4 things. Ready? Here they go!
1. New summer product switch- Shea Moisture Shea Butter Moisture Retention shampoo and conditioner are back on my shower shelf, it's hot and my hair is drying something awful. Thank goodness for Shea Moisture!
2.I love purple, I love shoes, and I love thrift stores. $5, I just had to buy them. (photo 2)
3. I follow a blog called The Mother Huddle and she has a tutorial on turning plain flip flops into super cute ones. So I made some for me and the girls. (photos 1&4)
4. My sis is taking her locs out that she has had for the past 2 years. They are long and there are alot. She has been wanting them out for a couple of months now because they are irritating her, now that she is expecting it has gotten worse. She called me yesterday and asked if I would help, I told her as long as she does not get mad at me afterwards. It took three hours for us to cut and comb out the front part, we had to stop because she works nights and she had to get some sleep. I will make sure to post more pics. (photos 3&5)
*I am posting from my phone and I know the pics will be in any order so just go with it, lol. Funny movie by the way!

Another pony

So after wearing my twists for two weeks my hair was silently yelling to come down, so I took them down only to do a quick twist out for Friday. Today is such a busy day though that it won't get washed until Sunday, after being stretched my hair made it into a ponytail where it will stay until tomorrow.

Hubby Hair Woes

What I am about to tell you is not funny...but it kind of is (but only to me)
My hubby has decided to get locs and he has been growing his hair out for the past two to three months.
Well. today he went and got what was supposed to be a trim and the barber cut too much off, he is so mad right now he does not know what to do.  I wish I had a picture of what his hair looked like before the chop because it has grown tremendously.
I dropped him off at the shop while I went to Ross (fav store), thirty minutes later he texted my back and said he was ready to go  and also how mad he was about his cut.  I thought he was playing cause he does that sometimes.  But when I saw his hair I could not believe my eyes, the barber, who by the way knows my hubby is trying to grow his hair out, cut way too much off putting him back at least a month worths of hair growth.
His plan was to start the Loc process on his birthday April 1, yes he his an April Fools baby.
I feel kind of bad cause I told him he was looking a little scruffy and needed the top trimmed a bit, if I had not said anything this would not have happened.
Like he always says though...it's over and you can't go back.
He is so disappointed in the whole situation and I truly feel bad for him cause he is so excited about this venture into the natural world.  He said he will let me trim it from now on like I had done before cause it looked nice.  Smiles!!
His hair grows fast anyways so by April he should be ready to get started.  My sister has locs and he will be using her loctitian.
Anyways, I just had to share this story with you guys,  I thought it was cut.  I told him now he understands how women feel when we get something done to our hair (like the Big Chop, lol) and can't go back.

My Morning Routinee

I did two things this morning, I washed my daughters hair and mine. I decided to try the yogurt and coconut conditioner on my three year olds hair, I worked the conditioner into her hair and let it set under a plastic shower cap for about 50 min, then I rinsed, shampooed, and applied the Cantu Shea Butter Leave IN Conditioner. I did see a difference in her hair, her curls were so much more softer than what they usually are than when I wash normally. After I finished I was able to pull a wide tooth comb through it which I normally can't do. There are some skeptics but it did help soften Hannah's (that's her name) hair and that helped me alot. The second thing I did was clarify my hair with 1 tblsp baking soda and 3 tbls pconditioner and rinse with 1 tblsp apple cider vinegar mixed in 1 cup of warm water. OMG! I love the way my hair felt afterwards, it was soooo soft, since I have been natural my hair has never felt so soft after a wash, I am deep conditioning right now so I can't wait to see the end result after I apply my products, today I also decided to use the leave in conditioner to my hair as well and see how I like it along with my IC Styling gel. Happy Happy JOY JOY! Now I just need to find out how often I need to use the baking soda and ACV so I don't to overboard. By the way, yesterday marked my two month anniversary of my BC. Until next time.......
